Society 6 design coming open | close

news

The latest design done by creative Rob Snow present to be presented on the artist workspace site; Society6. The concept was derived from the saying "Dog Day Afternoon". And shows a hunting dog reclining in a cafe chair, with arms crossed, and waiting for his afternoon tea to cool.

The aim was to try a new tangent with my artwork, that would fit better into the style that seems to be more appreciated in these modern social art sites. This is an attempt to get a create a bigger revenue from my artworks. The full example of the sketch can be seen on the Rob Art Blog at the following link

dooby, dooby dum, nice logo open | close

news

The latest of icon designs done by creative Rob Snow present a challenge of a different kind. Two logos were required by an American company to represent a website dedicated to the education of cannabis, in medical terms. And the second icon used to be a logo incorporated in the book that will accompany the website.

The challenge was that a stereotypical image of cannabis was needed to be avoided. This is a difficult challenge as there is not much else to cannabis unless the drug aspect is used. So, the solution was not totally avoiding the shape, it was just showing in a different way. This was achieved to simplification and colour. As the book icon was called chronicles, after some searching an shape of a pen nib was seen in the upper leaf element.

The medical website logo was even more challenging. There was a need to embrace both the medical symbol and the leaf. After some searching common shapes were found and the two forms were brought together to create a minimalist logo all-in-one. Both logos will be put on display in the graphics section in due course.

human rights competition open | close

news

Recently Rob submitted two ideas into the "Human Rights Logo Competition". The aim is to develop a universally recognisable logo for the organisation. The competition closes in July. Rob has submitted two concepts. The first can be seen in the thumbnail to the left, and the second can be seen on the site. The two links can be found here: Design One & Design Two

The main concept behind the design was based on some research into symbols and the discovery of an African Ideogram called “Bi Nka Bi”. The symbol depicts “peace and harmony” and literally means “Obi nka obi (bite not one another) and avoid conflicts”. Thinking this appropriate for the form of Human Rights around the world, a closer look was taken at the original form, and the shape of hands were conjured out of the design of the symbol. So with some modification the original symbol was translated into a logo design, replacing the elements with four multicoloured hands. The central element was also then changed to harmonise more by having a heart shape connecting all four hands. Three versions were formed with the necessary text configurations needed to design an appropriate logo, and then converted into monochrome form and a layered transparent form.

logo mania open | close

news

Had a recent spate of logo design commissions come in. The challenge always with these designs is to make the design simple and clean, and at the same time deliver what the client requires. Sometime this process works well, and sometime there is a ot of work and trial and error. This is where the creative thinking process has to work well in order to explore the possibilities.

The recent commissions have included the health spa "figura sana", and Athens based radio station, and an American based research office, looking at the medical aspects of the brain.
